The Rodia Monastery, also known as Panagia of Rodia, is dedicated to the Assumption of Holy Mary. It is located at the foot of the southwest slopes of Maurovouni (altitude 329m.), above the north shore of the Rodia lagoon and between the villages of Vigla – Strogili.
According to the Metropolitan of Arta, Seraphim Xenopoulos (Historical Essay on ‘Artis and Preveza, pp. 171-172), the monastery was founded in the year 970, when the Byzantine Emperor Ioannis Tsimiski reigned. It was renovated in 1860 by abbot of Constantius, who came from Theodoriana.
According to Aravantinos (Description of Epirus, Part III, p. 167), the monastery was founded in 925 and, during the 18th century, it had an income of 8,000 piastres a year.
