The house was maybe donated to Francesco Petrarca, Francesco I° from Carrara.
The poet decided to restore it and adapt it to his needs and personally following the work: he joined the two existing buildings assignating the elevated plane as a house for himself and his family. In front of the main entrance you can admire the garden. Inside the house the poet changed the layout. There were also remade the windows in Gothic style, adding two balconies and three fireplaces.
As a consequence of the serenity and peace that these places communicated to him, Petrarca decided to being buried here.
The building was partially modified over the centuries: in particular in the sixteenth century was added the loggia square two arches and frescoes petrarcheschi in the rooms.
Now a museum dedicated to Petrarca.
