The navigation basin, built for craft not greater than 300 tons, measuring 40 meters long, 7,20 wide and 10,40 high, allows to overcome the jump of water (from 4 to 7 meters) between Battaglia and Vigenzone channels. Upstream and downstream there are two stop basins closed by doors which are activated with the pressure of the water. For a few decades after it was built, there was a rapid increase in river transport, especially trachyte, but the fierce competition on the transport by rail and road will soon determined the divestment (1967). On 21 March 1998, fully restored and functional, it has been reopened, thanks to a restoration project of Veneto Region.
