Already mentioned in documents before the year 1000, San Zeno Castle owes its present shapes mainly to procedures performed around the middle of the thirteenth century for the will of Ezzelino da Romano: later the building has been repeatedly remodeled and expanded, becoming even hemp deposit in Venetian times and barracks during the Hapsburg domination. The most important architectural element of San Zeno Castle is undoubtedly the fortified tower dating back to Ezzelinian age, 44 meters high. From the tower you can overlook the entire city and Villa Pisani, one of the rare projects by Andrea Palladio in Paduan territory.
