Cà di Mezzo was made by the Consorzio di Bonifica Adige – Bacchiglione to purifying waste water through phytopurification.

The phytopurification, which means “water purification through plants”, is characterized by a biological treatment in which plants purify thanks to the bacteria present on the roots.

The Oasis collects Altopiano channel waters and removes about half of the nitrogen, phosphorus and suspended solids before they are led into Venice lagoon. It is located in the municipality of Codevigo. It covers an area of about 30 hectares. The restoration of the environment has allowed the settlement and reproduction of birds, resettlement and protection of migratory and sedentary wildlife. Here, the great egret, the knight of Italy, the cormorant, the marsh harrier, coot, moorhen, little egrets, mallards, kingfishers, great crested grebe come to be weaned and to nest.
