It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Theotokos and was founded in the 1st half of the 14th century.

Built on the southwestern slope of the mountain range of Farmakovouni, north of Filiata, it is one of the most important religious institutions of Epirus.

Its founder was an important personality, Saint Nilos Erihiotis, who came from Constantinople and was a descendant of the imperial family of the Lascarids.

The current katholikon dates from 1568, according to an inscription. It belongs to the type of four-column cross-in-square church, at the center of which stands the polygonal dome.

The frescoes date back to 1679. An icon of particular interest is the Byzantine icon of Panagia at the churches’ shrine, a magnificent work of the early 14th century, associated with Saint Nilos.

The katholikon is surrounded by cells and other auxiliary buildings, built at different levels and surrounded by a high surrounding wall.

The monastery is currently for monks and is known for its social contribution.
